Connectivity guide
United States Carrier Compatibility & Network Disclaimer
Overview of 5G Connectivity
5G technology provides enhanced data speeds and increased network capacity. To access 5G services on The Fairphone (Gen. 6+) US, users must possess a compatible 5G-enabled SIM or eSIM and an active data plan from a supporting carrier.
Network availability, signal strength, and data throughput are not guaranteed and are subject to:
- Carrier Infrastructure: Local tower density and the deployment of Standalone (SA) vs. Non-Standalone (NSA) 5G.
- Environmental Factors: Topography, building materials (e.g., steel/concrete), and atmospheric conditions.
- Hardware Configuration: Geographic regional band limitations of the device.

AT&T (Supported)
The Fairphone (Gen. 6+) offers support for AT&T for Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) activation. The device is whitelisted via IMEI and provisioned via SIM profile for authorized network feature sets. Please note that proprietary Public Safety (FirstNet) and certain capacity bands are not supported.
Limitations:
- No support for Band 14 (FirstNet) or Bands 29/30. No mmWave.
- Full internet speed is not guaranteed in every environment, in particular in ultra-dense areas.
- VoWiFi, IR.94, RCS and certain carrier-specific features not available.
T-Mobile (Supported)
The Fairphone (Gen. 6+) offers support with T-Mobile's network architecture, full functionality is subject to the specific limitations disclosed below.
Limitations:
- Advanced carrier aggregation features cannot be guaranteed.
- Emergency services are validated for standard cellular 911 calls only. Other situations such as Emergency calling over Wi-Fi, Real-Time Text (RTT), and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) have not been tested in all conditions.
- 5G Standalone (SA) limitations
- eSIM not supported
Verizon
NOT SUPPORTED. The Fairphone (Gen. 6+) is not certified for use on the Verizon Wireless network. Users attempting to use this device on Verizon do so at their own risk.
- Status: Incompatible / Not Whitelisted.
- Critical Notice: The device does not support LTE Band 13 (Verizon's primary coverage frequency).
- Network Experience: Users will encounter incomplete coverage, significantly limited data throughput, and frequent service drops.
- Functionality: Not all device functionalities are available; users should expect reduced or non-functional services.
Emergency Services Warning:
Due to the lack of Band 13 support, emergency call services (911) are not supported or guaranteed in areas where Verizon is the sole service provider. The Fairphone (Gen. 6+) cannot be relied upon for emergency communications on this network.
Important Notice Regarding MVNOs and Smaller Regional Carriers
Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) and regional carriers utilize the physical network towers and wireless infrastructure of primary network operators (T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon).
The network compatibility of The Fairphone (Gen. 6+) on any MVNO or regional carrier directly inherits the exact technical limitations of its underlying host network.
- T-Mobile Network MVNOs (e.g., Mint Mobile, Metro by T-Mobile, Google Fi Wireless, Tello): Generally supported with full 4G/5G capabilities, subject to carrier-specific provisioning.
- AT&T Network MVNOs (e.g., Boost Mobile, Cricket Wireless, Consumer Cellular, Straight Talk): Partially supported via BYOD protocols. Advanced carrier aggregation features, Band 14 data lanes, and Wi-Fi calling are not guaranteed.
- Verizon Network MVNOs (e.g., Visible, Total Wireless, TracFone, US Cellular regional roaming): NOT SUPPORTED. Because these carriers rely on Verizon's underlying spectrum architecture, the absence of LTE Band 13 hardware support on The Fairphone (Gen. 6+) will result in incomplete coverage, severely limited data throughput, restricted services, and a failure to guarantee emergency 911 calls.
Before purchasing or activating a service plan with an alternative or regional carrier, please contact your service provider directly to confirm their host network infrastructure and verify device IMEI activation compatibility.
